THE HOUSEHOLD WATER AND SANITATION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (funded by Icelandic Church Aid).
RACOBAO has continued promoting community hygiene especially targeting households of people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS under the WATSAN project that focuses on the priority areas of water, hygiene, and sanitation aimed at promoting the socio-economic wellbeing of HIV and AIDS affected people. RACOBAO constructs brick houses, simple water tanks, kitchens and latrines. The houses are different in sizes according to the family sizes as recommended by ICA. At one of the sites, the area local leaders donated a piece of land to the PLHIV who had all long been a squatter. Without this donation, the construction would have gone to another AIDS affected family making this particular PLHIV and her family more vulnerable. The construction has benefited very many vulnerable orphans and PLHIV especially those on ART because the water tanks have increased access to safe and clean water.
The construction of water tanks has reduced the long distances trekked in search of water because previously, the benefiting orphans collected water an average of 05 kilometers away. Water tanks have also made it easier for orphans especially the girl child to have enough time to attend school and reduce the risks met while travelling long distances in search for water.
