STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY RESPONSE AGAINST HIV/AIDS, GENDER BASED VIOLENCE AND DISCRIMINATION (SCAAD)(funded by Dan Church Aid).
RACOBAO is implementing a four year project (2012-2015) which has empowered rights holders to challenge harmful traditional and sexual practices that predispose them to HIV/AIDS, Gender Based Violence and Discrimination. Rights holders are empowered to demand for their rights and to conduct advocacy through interface meetings between rights holders and duty bearers or “Barazas” to demand for services.
The project has also strengthened community structures to respond to rights abuses resulting to reduced vulnerability to HIV by 2015.
Economic empowerment of rights holders as a key initiative under this project, rights holders have been mobilized to join VSLA groups which have increased their income hence progressively taking over the responsibility of looking after their families.
RACOBAO is building the capacity of duty bearers by strengthening the existing community structures to fulfill their mandates. RACOBAO identified structures such as Health Management Committees, Village Health Teams, Sub-county Aids Committee and District Aids Committee, whose members are supported to fulfill their obligations towards quality
